Reading & Layouts
Prescience is built with a cyclical framework in mind and based on the number three. The number three is represented all throughout the deck and three contains the philosophy of change. Three is contained all throughout history as a way for people to contend with divinity. There are a myriad of examples:
- Positive, Neutral, Negative
- Maiden, Mother, Crone
- Youth, Adult, Senior
- Waxing, Full, Waning
- Boy, Father, Sage
Each of the 5 Prescience suits contains 27 cards (3x3x3) represented as follows:
- 3 Cycles per suit:
- Learning
- Doing
- Being
- 3 Triads per Cycle:
- Internal
- External
- Unity
- 3 Ideas per Triad:
- Commencement
- Challenge
- Completion
Each card will denote it's Qualities; Cycle, Triad, and Idea to assist in understanding meaning.
For example, the 1 card of each suit is Learning-Internal-Commencement and then includes the idea of that suit.
Blue 1 might represent “Beginning to learn about your internally emotions”
Composition of deck when reading
135 cards can be a lot when shuffling and laying out. It is acceptable to use a partial deck when reading, even encouraged. I have had success by using only Three suits based on the question being asked. This will create a deck of 81 cards. Some examples might be:
- Should I stay with my partner? Blue, Red, Purple or Blue, Yellow, Purple
- How can I create more abundance in my life? Green, Red, Purple
- What should I do about my annoying job? Green, Yellow, Purple
Other configurations might be possible as well, such as a deck based on a specific Cycle or all cards of one Triad. Please let the community know if you find any specific configurations that work well for different situations.
Regardless of what configuration you choose, be sure to include purple in your deck. Source energy and spirituality pervade all aspects of life.
Layouts
A layout is how the cards are laid on the table. Each layout has designated spaces that conform to a specific idea or subject area of the reading. The conjunction of the card and the layout space create meaning. For example, many layouts have a space designated “Root” as in “root of the issue”. The card laid in the Root space gives you an idea of what might be the “root cause” of the issue or question at hand.
The word “Querent” refers to the person who is the subject of the reading, as in “the person making the query.”
Prescience is not designed to conform with any specific layout and you should feel free to use any layout that works for you.
Layouts themselves are many and varied. Often people make up their own layouts. You can find many different layouts in books or online. Here are a few layouts to get you started.
3 card layout - “What's happening now?”
This layout is useful for a quick question or change of perspective on a situation.
- Nature of the situation
- Querent's attitude toward the situations
- The main thing for the querent to keep in mind
9 card layout - “Cross”
The “Celtic Cross” was my mother's standard layout when reading Tarot. I've modified it based on what works for me. This is good for the sort of general questions that most people associate with card reading.
- Querent (Significator) - The questioner in relation to the issue
- Resources - What the querent has going for them. A challenge they have already overcome
- Challenge - What needs to be overcome. What is standing in the way
- Root - What is at the heart of the issue
- Environment - The setting of the issue
- Possibility - a possible outcome of the issue
- Remember - Keep this in mind
- Action - Something the querent might do next
- Unconsidered - Something the querent isn't thinking about in relation to the issue
5/7/9 card layout - “Concern & Asset Dualities”
Good for a situation with many facets. Querent should think of a situation and some number of concerns they have about that situation. Querent should number each concern and note the number for each (e.g. “This is concern 1, this is concern 2” etc.). This example shows 4 concerns, but any number of concerns are valid.
- Environment - A general overview of the situation in total
- Concern 1 - Querent's first concern
- Asset 1 - Something the querent has going for them in relation to concern 1
- Concern 2 - Querent's second concern
- Asset 2 - Something the querent has going for them in relation to concern 2
- Repeat for each concern noted
7 card layout - Chakras
Layout based on the seven chakras.
- Root chakra
- Sacral chakra
- Solar plexus chakra
- Heart chakra
- Throat chakra
- Third eye chakra
- Crown chakra
